You sound a lot like me. I've realised lately that I just don't like being an employee (for many of the reasons you have mentioned above) and I'm trying to find a way to transition into working on my startup full-time and hopefully never go back. Perhaps you are going about this the wrong way. You are looking for "The job where I'm happy to stay late, work on the project at home, and have pride in telling people what my company does." That sounds more like running your own company instead of being an employee.
